Cosmetic peptide research is largely about copper-binding tripeptides and related compounds. GHK-Cu is the most studied example: a sequence occurring naturally in human plasma whose concentration declines with age.
Research focuses on tissue remodelling and on gene expression in skin cells. Copper plays a key role there as a cofactor for enzymes involved in building collagen and elastin; the peptide component functions mainly as a carrier making that copper available in a controlled way.
